Thiruvananthapuram, Kerela, India - Terumo Corporation, the parent company of blood bag manufacturer Terumo Penpol, celebrates its 100th anniversary on 17 September 2021. To commemorate the centenary, associates from Terumo Penpol will donate blood to Regional Cancer Center in Thiruvananthapuram for 100 days. Additionally, a blood donation camp will take place on 17 September 2021 at the factory. Terumo Penpol will also provide healthcare kits to 100 palliative patients in Vilappil panchayat.
Terumo Penpol is the largest blood bag manufacturer in India, with more than 1,000 employees. It is part of Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, a subsidiary of Terumo Corporation. Terumo Penpol manufactures 35 million blood bags annually and exports the product to more than 80 countries, in addition to its domestic supply. Terumo Penpol has been a subsidiary of Terumo Corporation since 1999. Former IAS Officer Mr. C Balagopal founded Peninsula Polymers using technology developed by the Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology by manufacturing blood bags in 1987.
For years, Terumo Penpol has been at the forefront in promoting voluntary blood donation across India and has been instrumental in enhancing the capacity of the Primary Health Center located at Vilapilsala. Terumo Penpol has been assisting four major government schools located at the Vilappil Panchayath on the education front.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Terumo Corporation contributed substantially to the World Health Organization's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, and Terumo Penpol has supported its local community and the hospitals across India.
The State Government granted permission during the lockdown, considering the essentiality of our product, for the Terumo Penpol factory to continue operations. During this period, Terumo Penpol strictly followed the guidelines laid down by the government.
